Day 6-Train to Kyoto

On Monday we packed and loaded our suitcases into a cab and set off towards Tokyo Station.  There we arranged to have two of the suitcases left behind at the historic Tokyo Station Hotel, where we would be staying when we returned to Tokyo in one week.  Then we boarded the train to Kyoto and snapped a picture of our soon to be conductor.   At the Tokyo station I purchased a few things to eat for lunch, including a traditional Japanese lunch box, which proved to be quite the adventure and the source of much laughter and tears!      I think Japanese food may be an acquired taste.  Thankfully the Pocky and the Lemongina saved the day.

It’s about a 2 1/2 hour train trip from Tokyo to Kyoto, which has one of the most majestic train stations in Japan.      We checked into the Granvia Hotel that is convienently located in the train station. The accommodations were first class and our room on the 15th floor had a breathtaking view of the city.

As the lights of the city illuminate the night, we get ready for bed and the dawn of another grand adventure in the morning!

“Arriving at each new city, the traveler finds again a past of his that he did now know he had: the foreignness of what you no longer are or no longer possess lies in wait for you in foreign, unpossessed places.” – Italo Calvino
